    Fesdhoo Lagoon Night Dive

A fantastic dive site for night dives: Fesdu Lagoon in North Ari Atoll in the Maldives, is one of three locations in the world where you can observe manta rays feeding! At Fesdu Lagoon, in the North Ari Atoll, divers can witness a breathtaking display by feeding manta rays in only 15m of water, right off the back of the Maldive Mosaique. A small population of manta rays has learned that plankton is attracted to and concentrated by the lights of us mooring in the lagoon overnight, creating perfect feeding conditions for the manta rays, and even better conditions for an amazing manta dive! Within an hour or so of mooring at sunset, rays start to appear and begin barrel-rolling right beneath the boat as they attempt to gorge themselves on the plankton. We light up the water to attract the plankton and the manta rays. Divers simply sit back and watch the spectacular show unfold as the majestic dances often only inches away. This experience is only accessible by a liveaboard like the Maldive Mosaique as a constant source of light is needed to attract the plankton in large enough concentrations to bring in the manta rays and is best during the northeast monsoon – January to April – when the winds and currents push plankton to the western side of the Maldives.

    Maamigili Whale Shark Point

The Maamigili MPA boundary extends 1 km into the sea from the reef fringe at the southern end of Ari Atoll, extending to the northeastern tip of Dhigurah Island and down to the northwestern tip of the reef crest of Rangali Island. This is one area where whale sharks are present almost every day of the year, with exceptionally large congregations of whale sharks occurring during the protracted coral spawning in the north-east monsoon full moon periods. Close to Maamigili Island is the famed Whale Shark Point of South Ari Atoll. Known as the foremost location in the world for spotting and snorkeling with the gentle giants of the sea, over 80 unique whale sharks call this protected region home.

If the current is not extremely strong, is possible to cross the channel from Vihamaafaru to Kudadhiggaru Falhu. This dive site is awesome with strong ingoing current, with reefs and caves on the outside on the wall, dropping to more than 40m depths. Around the entrance, there are grey reef sharks, eagle rays and other pelagics. If the current is too strong, the drift can be short as well.
